We have two sons on the autism spectrum who live at home with us. We love them and try to support them in their efforts to build their lives. We have three other children, who have left the nest, but we have found that two of them are also on the spectrum.
So we are definitely aware and accepting of autism in all its variations.
A lot of people recognize colorful puzzle pieces as the symbol of autism. But in recent years, a new symbol has been coming into the forefront - the rainbow infinity sign. I saw some t-shirts featuring this design recently, and it got me wondering if I could make a beadie rainbow infinity symbol. I ended up with this:
To make it, start with at least 4 yards of plastic lacing or other cord of choice. For regular-size pony beads, you will need even more cord. No lanyard hook or keyring for this project (you can add one later to the location of your choice, if you want one)
Every row is 4 beads each. Start with 6 rows of red, then 7 rows of orange, 4 of goldenrod, 4 of yellow (or 8 rows of yellow if you don't have goldenrod), 4 of lime green, and 4 of green.
At this point you'll make a loop out of the line of beads, and cross them through the 1st and 3rd rows of the red beads, as shown. Pull tight.
Next, you will proceed with 4 rows of aqua, 4 of neon blue, 4 royal blue, 4 purple, 4 lavender, and 4 burgundy.
For the final step, you will loop the line of beads around to the other side of the red beads, then take one of the strings from the last row through row 1 of the red beads. Meet it up with the other string and tie in a knot, then trim.
How will you use your beadie Autism Acceptance ribbon?
